Ysgol Rhiwlas Special Birthday
This year Ysgol Rhiwlas is celebrating a truly special milestone – a 150th birthday. This means that Ysgol Rhiwlas is older than Garth Pier in Bangor, Bangor University, the Royal Albert Hall, the Eiffel Tower, and until at the Statue of Liberty!
To mark the occasion pupils will be busy throughout the year learning about school life in the Victorian period, creating a new song for the school, and doing creative work such as art and writing.
The community is invited to join in the celebrations by visiting the school on Saturday 20th April between 11am – 3pm. This is a chance to wander and reminisce over a cup and cake, and browse through archive photographs of the school.
If you or a member of your family has photographs of Ysgol Rhiwlas we would love to see them. Please send copies to ysgolrhiwlasyn150@outlook.com
So remember the date – Saturday, 20th April between 11am – 3pm, Ysgol Rhiwlas' open afternoon.
Eisteddfod yr Urdd
The Urdd Eisteddfod is on the horizon, and pupils at Ysgol Rhiwlas are busy rehearsing! Good luck to everyone with the learning.
Manon Steffan Ros
As a school we are proud of the success of one of our former pupils, Manon Steffan Ros. As we know Manon won the Yoto Carnegie Medal for Writing in 2023.Following winning the award Manon received a generous donation of book tickets from the Book Council, for her to donate to a library of her choice. We are extremely grateful that Manon had donated book tickets to Ysgol Rhiwlas library, and it was great to welcome Manon back to school to receive the donation.
Palas Print
Some pupils at Ysgol Rhiwlas had the opportunity to go and shop in January – shoplifting for books. As Manon Steffan Ros donated book tickets to the school, spending was necessary! The pupils were welcomed to the Palas Print shop in Caernarfon, where they had a rewarding morning browsing through the shelves and buying books of their choice. Thanks to the staff at Palas Print for the warm welcome, and Manon for the gift and kindness. The school library is well worth seeing!
Music Club
If you go past Ysgol Rhiwlas on Wednesday afternoons you will be sure to hear percussive sounds coming through the door... What's going on I wonder? Well, a brand new Music Club led by Mrs Alty. Nice to see the pupils experimenting with instruments such as drums, piano, and guitar. Keep going everyone!
